Curtiss-Wright Corporation

The Curtiss-Wright Corporation, Electronics Division, was located at 631 Central Avenue in Carlstadt, NJ. The original Radiameter was made in Germany in 1955. It was a compact, handheld survey meter that operated on a single flashlight battery. It weighed 2 lbs. It measured beta or gamma by a twist of a knob. It had two ranges 25 mR/h or 1 R/h. The unit was designed for health physics applications. The lower scale provide high sensitivity for decontamination monitoring. The high scale measures stronger radiation usually requiring an ionization chamber. It has a one piece cast aluminum case which is rugged and lightweight. It has a Geiger tube and can monitor energies as low as 15 keV. Available accessories include a probe to multiply sensitivity by 10, a tube to divide sensitivity by 10, an alpha tube, a radium calibration source, and an attractive leather carrying case.
